The origin of chilies is believed to be as old as 7000 B.C. used in Mexico, Chilies were grown and cultivated from 3500 BC. There are more than 400 different varieties of chilies found all over the world. One of most hottest chili “Naga Jolokia” (150, 000 – Shu) is cultivated in hilly terrain of Assam in a small town Tezpur, India.

India is the world’s largest producer, consumer and exporter of chili. Guntur in the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh produces 30% of all the chilies produced in India. Andhra Pradesh as a whole contributes, 75% of India’s chili exports. Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh also grows this commodity predominantly.
